ABOUT

JM Serbia was created in 1954 and re-founded after the break up of former Yugoslavia, in 1992. JM Serbia, Belgrade, in our environment, has been open from the beginning of its work, and remains open to this day to all those music and cultural workers who have the will and strength to selflessly and creatively contribute to the expansion of the activities of this organization. Above all, JM Serbia, Belgrade exists for children and young people, to more permanently befriend them with music, but also with other arts. The main goals of our organization are the support and promotion of young musicians, education, bringing all genres of music closer to young people, encouraging musical and other cultural creativity among young people, and raising the cultural level of the communities in which it operates.
JMSB runs many local and national events including school concerts, the Summer Academy of Sacred Music (Monastery Studenica), an open-air festival called “Kalemegdan Dusks”, a Quiz-competition for high schools, public concerts and workshops for young Serbian musicians.
One of its leading projects is the International Jeunesses Musicales Competition Belgrade which is held annually. The Competition is dedicated to the most promising young musicians at the beginning of their international careers and is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, held in Geneva. Every year the Competition is open to different instruments played by musicians from any nationality under 30 years of age. The categories chosen for the competition are most traditionally violin, violoncello, piano, guitar, singing, flute, and chamber music, but there were years with composition (1979, 1985, 1990, 2000), and viola (1982) as categories. At the next, 53rd competition, the category will be a new instrument – harp!
The JM Serbia, Belgrade contributes to and supports the development of young people through music, regardless of their religious, national, social, linguistic, or any other affiliation. What the Music Youth has been able to do so far, and we hope will continue to do so in the future, is to primarily assist music educators in achieving their great work – the upbringing and education of young personalities.
